Hello!
My name is Jen. My journey to instructional design includes an education degree and substitute teaching, several years in the advertising department of a local newspaper, before turning back towards education and moving into higher education admissions.
In each position, even those outside of teaching, I found myself training, sometimes formally and sometimes informally, and many times creating instructional guides or documentation.
One night, my friends and I were discussing the idea of five and ten year plans. When I went home that night, I reflected on my past jobs and what an actual career plan could look like. I realized that while I left classroom teaching, I never really stopped acting as an educator or lost my love of finding ways to explain new concepts and skills to others. This realization led me to the field of Instructional Design.
I view myself as a life long learner, and always have a topic of subject I am currently interested in and trying to learn more about. I also believe that education is something almost sacred; it is both beautiful and powerful.
I've decided to combine my loves of learning and learning design by creating learning materials for my current topic of interest. My design assistant, Sisko (pictured left), and I will be documenting and sharing these materials in my blog.
